The diagram below shows a notation, which we are playing through bar 5. Then, D.S al Coda directs us to the sign at bar 2. Here, we will play until the instructions To Coda (end of bar 3), moving us to the Coda (bar 6).
Then we have D.C, which stands for da capo or 'from the beginning' in English. Another word included is Fine, which means 'ending.' When you first encounter this indication, you will then head to the top of the piece. D.C al Fine then tells you to return at the start of the piece. However, when you then come across fine, that marks the end of the piece. Below are the diagrams that represent that.
In general, both D.S and D.C will often be used with either al Coda or al Fine. You can also encounter more than one sign and codas in one piece of music.
